Why We LOVE Christmas Cards!

Why We LOVE Christmas Cards!

You know it was not that long ago when printing was not affordable to the masses and it was products and services like the Christmas Card and the Post Office that took printing down another road – where it was accessible to everyone. Do you want to know how the Christmas Card got its start? The custom of sending Christmas cards was started in England in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole – a civil servant who helped set-up the Public Record Office (now the Post Office). He was fascinated by the way people communicated and wondered how this new service could be used by more people. So, he, along with his artist friend John Horsley designed the first Christmas Card and voila the tradition was started.

It was in the 1840s that Christmas Cards appeared in the U.S. Of course, they were very expensive and most people could not afford them until Louis Prang an American printer started mass producing cards so people could afford to buy them. In 1915, John C. Hall and two of his brothers created Hallmark Cards and the rest is history.

Our team is thankful for those who came before us and made printing not only an art but a service all could use and enjoy! So, when you open your mailbox this season, and take out a card from a friend or a loved one, think of all that came before to make this such a rich tradition. Enjoy!

Consumers Prefer Print!

Consumers Prefer Print!

Whether it’s through a newspaper, book, magazine, or a simple flyer; we believe holding the physical copy of someone’s ideas can be invaluable. Studies show that print is still trusted over digital by consumers.

Fall Into The Right Pre-Press Habits

Fall Into The Right Pre-Press Habits

People often ask our pre-press team, what makes a file “right” for printing? Although we can work with any file you send our way, here are some things to consider when you prepare your art for printing:

  • Stick With Programs The Pros Use

To create a brochure, catalog or direct mail piece don’t try to create them in programs that are not meant for printers. Choose programs like Adobe® Illustrator, Adobe® Photoshop or Adobe® InDesign. These programs will guide and help you set up your files properly with shortcuts already built in to them. If you don’t have the resources to use these programs, let us know! We can take other files and convert them for you!

  • Talk to Us!

When you are getting ready to prep your file, give us a call! We can tell you what file type we need to run the job. Be it a high-resolution PDF or a packaged file, we can help you with the right file type for your project.

  • We Want to Help!

When you start to create your project, give us a call. Let us help make your project run smoother by allowing us to give you suggestions for printing and finishing that you might not know you can do. We have seen it all and our crazy ideas might take you to another direction and make your project go from OK to WOW!

  • Convert.

Not only to having Compton Press be your printer… but your photos! Please remember to convert your photos from RGB to CMYK before you send the files to our team.

We look forward to working with you this Fall on your next project. If you need help, give us a call – we are here to help!

It’s Summertime! Keep Cool Under Pressure!

It’s Summertime! Keep Cool Under Pressure!

It’s summer and as the temperature rises, so to do pressures from your workplace, family and friends.  During this time, Dan (Compton’s President) would tell you the best recipe for relieving stress would be to get outside and golf. Of course, what can be less stressful than golfing? Or for some of us even more stressful than golfing? In the spirit of July 20th – Getting To Know Your Customers Day – we reached out to ours and asked them… “What do you do to stay cool and calm amid life’s crazy and stressful situations?” Their answers were interesting and we thought we would share them with you!

  • Put Your Phone Down. Don’t get online and start ranting about a problem or a situation. Breathe. Settle down and give it some time – you might realize it wasn’t as big as a deal as you thought it was in your mind.
  • Set The Mood. Chill all year long by setting the mood and turning up the tunes in your office and car. Singing on the way to work and on the way, home makes a day begin and end with happiness.
  • Get some me, myself and I time… and mean it! Take time to golf, be outside, hang with family and friends and turn off your stress meter. Also, get enough sleep, hydrate and try something different than coffee to start your day? How about a walk outside?
  • Distract yourself with laughter. There is nothing that chills the soul than some gut wrenching, laugh out loud belly laughs. Those make any stressful situation or mood fly out the window.
  • Run Away. Take a day off from work. Or from obligations. Just be a kid for a day or even a few hours. It will help.
  • Stressed About A Big Event? Need to present to the boss. Pitch a new client. Have the 4th of July BBQ? Don’t worry about it, run through it in your mind and do a rehearsal so you think of every question, scenario, menu – it will make you feel more prepped and ready to go.
  • Listen.

We want to thank our amazing customers, employees and friends for the responses – YOU make us less stressful!
